Cable installation projects often involve teams moving between locations as new routes are excavated and infrastructure is installed. Finding suitable training without unnecessarily delaying work can therefore be an important consideration.
We arrange NRSWA courses through training centres across the UK, helping cable laying businesses organise qualifications for operatives, supervisors and subcontractors working on electrical distribution, fibre optic networks and other underground cable infrastructure.
For businesses with six or more delegates, dedicated group training may also be arranged at suitable premises, subject to course requirements and available facilities.
Weekday, weekend and, where available, evening training options provide additional flexibility for contractors managing installation schedules and workforce availability.
Following successful assessment, candidates receive certification for the units achieved and registration on the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR). NRSWA qualifications are valid for five years.
5-Day NRSWA Operative Course
Our 5-day NRSWA Operative course covers essential physical Streetworks activities, including excavation, backfilling, reinstatement and signing, lighting and guarding. It is particularly relevant to cable laying operatives responsible for excavating trenches, preparing cable routes and reinstating highway surfaces following underground installations.
5-Day NRSWA Supervisor Course
The 5-day NRSWA Supervisor course is designed for employees responsible for overseeing Streetworks activities. It covers monitoring and supervising excavation, reinstatement and signing, lighting and guarding, making it relevant to supervisors managing underground cable installation teams.
Unit LA – Cat & Genny
Identifying existing underground apparatus is particularly important before cable trenches are excavated. Unit LA covers locating and avoiding underground services using appropriate detection equipment and techniques, helping operatives understand the risks associated with working near buried infrastructure.
Unit O1 – Signing, Lighting & Guarding
Where cable installation activities affect public highways, temporary signing and guarding arrangements may be required. Unit O1 is intended for operatives responsible for setting out and maintaining signs, cones, barriers and associated Streetworks arrangements.
Unit S1 – Monitoring Signing, Lighting & Guarding
Unit S1 covers the monitoring of signing, lighting and guarding arrangements. It is suitable for supervisors responsible for overseeing these arrangements during qualifying cable laying and excavation activities.
NRSWA Reassessment
Existing NRSWA qualifications are valid for five years. Our reassessment courses help experienced cable laying operatives and supervisors renew the relevant units before expiry, supporting workforce planning and continued qualification compliance.
