NRSWA Operative Streetworks Course Essex

For both individuals and groups, our NRSWA Operative Streetworks Course in Essex is the perfect way to learn vital new skills.

NRSWA Operative Streetworks Course in Essex

Our 5-day NRSWA Operative Streetworks Course in Essex covers everything an operative needs to know. From the location and avoidance of underground utilities, to excavation and reinstatement best practices, every topic is explored in depth. Course attendees are also taught how to plan, install, decommission and remove signing, lighting and guarding for streetworks sites on UK highways. At the end of the course, successful participants are awarded a certificate from a recognised body and an SWQR ID Card, which is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of issue.

Our operative course covers all of the following key topics in detail:

Cat & Genny Underground Utility Detection and Avoidance – All Streetworks operatives should know how to use a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Genny 4 Signal Generator to detect and avoid underground utility equipment, which is why our instructors take great pains to ensure every attendee acquires the necessary skills and knowledge during the course.

Signing, Lighting and Guarding – This is another key area with which all operatives must be familiar and one that we consequently cover in depth. After completing the course, you will know how to plan, install and decommission signing, lighting and guarding for streetworks sites, including temporary traffic signalling equipment.

Excavation Techniques and Best Practices – Highway excavations must be well planned and executed, in order to minimise disruption to motorists and ensure that streetworks can be completed quickly, efficiently and within budget. Your practical knowledge of excavation techniques, learned on the course, will help you to achieve these goals more easily.

Reinstatement Techniques and Best Practices – The best reinstatement techniques to follow tend to vary, depending on the materials you are dealing with. It is for this reason we cover all the most commonly encountered surfaces and sub-base materials in detail during the course, including cold-lay and hot-lay bituminous materials, modular surfaces and concrete slabs.

Yes, you can carry out all the physical works covered by your units. However you need to have a streetworks supervisor assigned to the site with the equivalent supervisor units.

There are no beginner units. Each unit delivers something different. If you have no experience, there are books you can read prior to a course or if you can get some practical work experience with a company that would benefit you greatly.

If you require supervisor units - while the operative units are not compulsory – gaining the operatives units first and doing the physical works can be of help.
