Those in Nottingham hoping to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to monitor the installation of SLG equipment on local authority roads would do well to sign up for the NRSWA Unit S1: Monitoring Signing, Lighting and Guarding Training Course Nottingham.
This is an intensive 1-day course that includes both classroom work and practical activities designed to provide the participant with the skills and knowledge they will need to become an SLG monitor in Nottingham. It is intended only for those who will be assuming supervisory roles and not those performing the physical work of setting up SLG components.
Course objectives
The objective of this course is to ensure candidates:
- Come away with a comprehensive understanding of relevant regulations and standards.
- Can accurately identify and assess various worksite hazards.
- Can effectively supervise work done by SLG installation technicians.
- Can verify that all SLG components are compliant with the NRSW Act of 1991.
- Can effectively monitor the installation of temporary traffic lights.
- Can create and maintain a safe environment for pedestrians.
- Are able to effectively supervise the installation and disassembly of SLG works on highways.
At the end of this 1-day course, all candidates will be assessed on their performance and then required to take and pass a multiple choice online exam. Upon successfully passing the assessment and exam participants will be awarded Street Works Qualification Register cards and have their names entered into the SWQR registry. They will then be qualified to seek work monitoring SLG installations for Local Authorities, utilities and construction companies throughout Nottingham, the East Midlands and all of England.
Who is the course for
The 1-day Nottingham NRSWA Unit S1 Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding course is for anyone that needs to monitor and supervise the temporary signage, cones, guards and lights on the roads that direct traffic and people around the place of work. Previously known as Streetworks Unit 10, this course is for supervisors only who do not undertake any physical work.
Delivery
The course is delivered at the centre through a combination of classroom learning and practical activities in 1 day at the Nottingham Streetworks training location. You will then be required to complete assessments and a short online exam for the unit.
Outcome
After successful completion of the course you will be awarded a certificate from the awarding body, from one of the following; CABWI, SQA, Lantra, City and Guilds or Smart Awards. You will then be registered on the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR), and you will receive your own SWQR ID card.
How long does the qualification last
Your certificate and card are valid for 5 years and will show the unit you are qualified in to work on the roads.
