Derby Streetworks courses for Operatives, Supervisors, Unit O1/S1, Unit LA or Reassessments
The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) requires that there is a qualified Operative on site at all times while street works are in progress.
It also requires that the site is supervised by a Supervisor.
Those that need to work as an Operative or a Supervisor on the local authority roads will need to undertake the NRSWA Streetworks course Derby to gain the qualifications to carry out their work to the safe and high standard required by the NRSWA.
Qualifications
Once candidates have successfully completed their NRSWA training course Derby they will be registered with CABWI, SQA, City&Guilds or the relevant awarding body and will receive certification.

They will also be registered on the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR) and will receive a physical SWQR photo ID card listing all units the candidate is qualified in.
Qualifications last 5 years, and will need to be reassessed every 5 years through a NRSWA Streetworks reassessment.
Do I need a NRSWA course?
Those whose work is carried out on the local authority roads or pathways, or supervising works on these roads or pathways are required by law to hold SWQR card with the units relevant to the work they are doing. The works can include all or one of the following excavation, backfill, reinstatement, signing, guarding, locating underground apparatus and using tarmac materials.

The NRSWA Streetworks course Derby is generally completed through a combination of practical assessments and classroom learning and a short online exam for each unit, led by one of our highly experienced and friendly trainers.

To continue to work on the roads, every 5 years you will need to renew your SWQR card, this ensures competency to work on the roads. Yes, you can carry out all the physical works covered by your units. However you need to have a streetworks supervisor assigned to the site with the equivalent supervisor units.
There are no beginner units. Each unit delivers something different. If you have no experience, there are books you can read prior to a course or if you can get some practical work experience with a company that would benefit you greatly.
If you require supervisor units - while the operative units are not compulsory – gaining the operatives units first and doing the physical works can be of help.
