The NRSWA Unit O1: Signing Lighting and Guarding Training Course in London is designed to provide participants with the practical, technical and regulatory knowledge they will need to sign, light and guard active construction sites in real world situations. The course is comprehensive in its breadth and is intended for anyone tasked with setting up the temporary signage, lights and guards required to safely and effectively redirect both vehicular and pedestrian traffic through and around active work sites in London.
This NRSWA Unit O1 course is for those who will be performing the work themselves and is delivered by way of both classroom lessons and practical activities carried out over the course of a single day. Upon completion of the lessons and activities participants will be required to undergo assessments and to complete a timed multiple choice online exam in order to successfully pass the course and receive their Street Works certification.
Who is the course for
The 1-day NRSWA Unit O1 Signing, lighting and guarding course is for anyone that needs to set up temporary signage, cones, guards and lights on the roads to direct traffic and people around the place of work. Previously known as the Streetworks Unit 2, this course is for operatives only who will be doing the physical work.
Delivery
The course is delivered at our London Streetworks centre, through a combination of classroom learning and practical activities in 1 day. You will then be required to complete assessments and a short online exam for the unit.
Outcome
After successful completion of the course you will be awarded a certificate from the awarding body, from one of the following; CABWI, SQA, Lantra or City and Guilds. You will then be registered on the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR), and you will receive your own SWQR ID card.
Course objectives
The goal of the NRSWA Unit 01: Signing, Lighting and Guarding training course is to educate participants about the dangers involved in London Street Works and to provide them with the skills and knowledge they will need to mitigate those dangers in real world settings through the use of signing, lighting and guarding.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will:
- Install signs, lights and guards that conform to the NRSW Act of 1991.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of SLG workers.
- Understand all relevant SLG regulations and standards.
- Be able to identify and accurately assess the unique hazards involved in London Street Works.
- Understand how to mitigate such hazards through the use of signage, lighting and guards.
- Understand proper sequencing for the setting up of SLG equipment.
- Understand proper sequencing for removing such equipment.
- Know how to protect pedestrians from work site hazards.
Upon completion of the NRSWA Unit O1: Signing, Lighting and Guarding Training Course in London participants will receive an SQA certificate and SWQR card which is good for 5 years. They will then be able to seek employment with government entities or independent contractors who engage in Street Works throughout the capital.
How long does the qualification last
Your certificate and card are valid for 5 years and will show the unit you are qualified in to work on the roads.
