Who is the course for
The London full or single unit reassessments are for anyone that wishes to continue to work on the roads, and whose current qualifications are due to or have recently expired. The course is generally designed for those with streetworks experience.
We strongly suggest that if your NRSWA card is going to expire within the next 6 months that you do not wait until the last minute to sign up for a reassessment. After all, if you wait and then miss the expiry date you will be unable to continue performing highway work legally until you come in for reassessment.
Also, a common misconception is that if one undergoes reassessment with up to 6 months remaining on their current card that they will lose those months of accreditation. Not true. Whatever time is left on your current card will simply be added to the valid length of the new card. So, for example, if you undergo reassessment with 6 months left on your current card the new card will be good for 5 years and 6 months.

Delivery
At the London NRSWA centre you will have to complete a timed online exam for each Streetworks unit you are being refreshed on. For a full reassessment it will take up to 2 days and you can expect to go straight to test only. For single unit reassessments in London centre these can be completed in half a day.
The reassessment exam for each unit comprises 20 questions. The participant is given 45 minutes to complete each exam with at least 80% correct answers (16 out of 20) needed to pass.
Outcome
After successful completion of the course you will be awarded a new certificate from the awarding body, from either one of the following; CABWI, SQA, Lantra or City and Guilds. Your refreshed qualification will then be registered on the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR), and you will receive a new SWQR ID card.
If your plan is to forego reassessment and simply re-register with SWQR be advised you will not succeed. In order to re-register with SWQR you will need to present the reassessment certificate from one of the above-listed awarding bodies.
How long does the qualification last
Your certificate and card are valid for a further 5 years and will show the units you are qualified in to work on the roads.
Do I have to choose reassessment?
Any Operative or Supervisor facing the expiry of their NRSWA Card may choose either reassessment or full assessment. Oftentimes those who have only worked sporadically on highways during the previous 5 years will choose to sign up for a full assessment. Whereby a reassessment comprises a simple refresher course and a 20 question exam, assessment entails retaking the practical and theoretical courses you took to get the NRSWA Card the first time around.
What happens to my old NRSWA Card?
If you take the NRSWA Reassessment in London with significant time still left on your old NRSWA Card you have the option of keeping it until it expires, at which time a new card will be issued that shows any new units along with any unexpired units from the last card. If different units of yours have different expiry dates these different dates will all be listed on the new card.
