The role of the Operative is to build, maintain and repair highways and footpaths. It is essential that the Operative has a well-rounded understanding of all aspects of excavation and reinstatement and that their work is always carried out in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) of 1991 and all relevant laws.
We offer a comprehensive 5-day course for the Operative in Nottingham that covers the required NRSWA Streetworks Operative Units and provides participants with the certification they need to enhance their employment prospects or advance their career.
Who is the course for
The 5 day NRSWA Operative course Nottingham is for anyone who wants to undertake all of the physical works on the roads within the UK. Including excavation, backfill, reinstatement, signing, guarding and using tarmac and cold-lay materials.
Delivery
The Nottingham course is delivered through a combination of classroom learning and practical activities over 5 days. You will then be required to complete assessments and a short online exam for each unit.
Outcome
After successful completion of the course you will be awarded a certificate from the awarding body, from one of the following; CABWI, SQA, Lantra or City and Guilds. You will then be registered on the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR), and you will receive your own SWQR photo ID card.
How long does the qualification last
Your certificate and card are valid for 5 years and will show the units you are qualified in to work on the roads.
What is the NRSWA?
The NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) Of 1991 is legislation that, among other things, established clear guidelines and procedures for the performance of excavation and reinstatement work on highways and footpaths. Every Operative working on roads in England must be well-versed in the guidelines established by the NRSWA.
Who is an NRSWA Operative?
An NRSWA Operative is any person employed for the purposes of conducting excavation or reinstatement work on highways and footpaths in England.
Why is NRSWA training necessary?
Streetworks must be conducted in a safe and effective manner in order to avoid causing harm to workers, pedestrians, passing motorists and members of the surrounding community. NRSWA training provides Operatives with the skill necessary to do just that.
Our Operative Nottingham 5-day course provides participants with the knowledge and hands-on experience they need to ensure their work will adhere to NRSWA standards.
