To ensure all work on roads and infrastructure in the UK is carried out to a safe and high standard, roadworkers must undertake the NRSWA Streetworks course for operatives or supervisors covering the units relevant to their work.
After successfully completing the NRSWA course the operative or supervisor will have the skills to carry out Streetworks to the standards required by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
Accreditation
After successful completion of the NRSWA training course London candidates will be registered with CABWI, SQA, City&Guilds or the relevant awarding body and will receive certification.

Yes, you can carry out all the physical works covered by your units. However you need to have a streetworks supervisor assigned to the site with the equivalent supervisor units.
There are no beginner units. Each unit delivers something different. If you have no experience, there are books you can read prior to a course or if you can get some practical work experience with a company that would benefit you greatly.
If you require supervisor units - while the operative units are not compulsory – gaining the operatives units first and doing the physical works can be of help.
