NRSWA Streetworks Unit S1 Course Birmingham

The Unit S1 Monitor Signing, Lighting and Guarding course for Supervisors is a 1 day course. Previously known as Unit 10 and often referred to as SLG.

There are 2 elements to the 1 day SLG course, theory and practical. The course will start off with going over all of the theory aspect of supervising and monitoring signing, lighting and guarding. This is delivered via PowerPoint presentations, videos, printouts, case studies and other methods. 
 
Then once the theory is completed attendees will get hands-on training monitoring Operatives doing the physical works of putting out cones, signage and barriers. At the end of the day, there will be an open book exam comprising 20 multiple-choice questions. 

 Following successful completion of the NRSWA Unit S1: Monitoring Signing, Lighting and Guarding training course in Derby participants will: 
 
  • Possess the ability to supervise signing, lighting and guarding installation at active job sites on roads and highways.
  • Ensure all such installations conform to the New Roads and Street Works (NRSW) Act of 1991.
  • Oversee the installation of temporary traffic signals.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of all relevant roadworks regulations and standards.
  • Be able to identify and assess hazards on active job sites.
  • Help ensure through vehicles and pedestrians can transit to the job site safely.
  • Supervise those setting up and removing temporary job site controls.

Those who successfully complete the NRSWA SLG course in Derby will receive certification from Cabwi, City & Guilds, SQA, Lantra or another licensed certification body. Certification will be valid for 5 years and be accompanied by an SWQR card with your certification number, qualifications and expiry date. 
 
 The 1-day NRSWA Unit S1 Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding course is for anyone in the Derby area that needs to monitor and supervise the temporary signage, cones, guards and lights on the roads that direct traffic and people around the place of work. Previously known as Unit 10, this course is for supervisors only who do not undertake any physical work.

Yes. Unit LA (previously known as unit 1) is for both Streetworks operatives and supervisors working on the roads, they do not require a separate qualification. 

The NRSWA Streetworks Unit LA is specifically for those who need to located underground apparatus whilst working on the UK roads and highways. It is a key unit which you need if you intend to qualify in any of the Streetworks excavation and reinstatement units. 
If you are not working on the roads you may require the EUSR qualification, or an in-house certification. If you are not sure please drop us a call 0333 301 0226.
