What to expect on the course?
The course will be split into 2 segments: theoretical and practical. The theoretical aspects of the training will take place during the morning and be delivered in a classroom setting using PowerPoint presentations, printouts, case studies and more.

Following a break the focus will shift to hands-on training with actual equipment. Participants will be asked to demonstrate they have absorbed the information by using the equipment to locate underground services in a mock worksite setting. They will be expected to accurately read street plans and to adhere to best practices as taught by the instructor.
Those who successfully complete the Cat & Genny Course in Slough will be able to:
- Operate both the CAT and Genny machines safely and effectively.
- Read and understand service plans for public utilities.
- Locate those services underground using the CAT (Cable Avoidance Tool).
- Understand HSG 47 regulations regarding the avoidance of underground services.
- Create a plan indicating the location of various services detected.
- Demonstrate adequate knowledge of PPE required to perform their job.
As the course unfolds the instructor will conduct ongoing assessments of participants' understanding of the material. At the conclusion of the day's lessons, there will be a multiple-choice exam consisting of 20 questions. In order to receive Cat & Genny Certification participants will need to answer at least 80% (16 out of 20) correctly.
