NRSWA Cat & Genny Course in Hounslow

Effective roadworks require meticulous planning and rigorous execution by properly trained professionals. One of the most important aspects of successful roadworks is locating and identifying various underground utilities to ensure they are not compromised by construction activity. This is accomplished by way of the CAT and Genny machines. Our NRSWA CAT & Genny course near Hounslow is how you obtain the information and experience necessary to operate those devices.

CAT is short for "Cable Avoidance Tool". This device enables you to locate and identify utility lines present in the space under an intended road construction site. Genny, on the other hand, is short for "Signal Generator". Once a utility line is located the Genny is used to send an electrical pulse down the length of the cable or pipe. That signal is picked up by the CAT which uses it to trace the path of the utility so it can be avoided.

Any time a road construction project is completed without incident you can thank the CAT and Genny tools. If your job requires, or will require, you to operate these devices you will need to be properly trained and certified first. Our CAT & Genny course will provide that certification.
Upon successful completion of the CAT & Genny Course near Hounslow participants will know how to:

  • Operate the CAT and the Genny machines in a safe and effective manner.
  • Locate and identify underground utilities.
  • Read and correctly interpret utility service plans.
  • Create an accurate schematic of underground hazards.
  • Comply with the government's HSG 47 regulations.
  • Choose the correct PPE gear for each project.
This course takes place over 1 full day and is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. At the end of the day, there will be a multiple-choice exam. You must answer 80% of the questions correctly to obtain certification.
