NRSWA Cat & Genny Course in Kingston

If you need to be certified for the CAT and Genny machines for a road construction position our NRSWA CAT & Genny Course near Kingston is just the thing. Signing up is easy as you'll see in a moment, and once you successfully complete the course you will receive the certification you need from an authorised issuing body such as City & Guilds, Lantra, the Certification and Assessment Board for the Water Industry (CABWI) or the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

Successful road construction projects don't happen by accident. They are the result of skilled professionals performing rigorous preparatory work, including locating and identifying a variety of underground utilities. The CAT & Genny tools are the devices used to accomplish that.

"CAT" is short for Cable Avoidance Tool which is used to locate underground cables and pipes, while "Genny" is short for Signal Generator. Genny is used to trace the path of underground utilities so that people working above will be able to avoid them throughout the duration of the construction project.
The CAT & Genny course is a day-long course comprising morning and afternoon sessions. In the morning participants will focus on the theoretical aspects of utility placement and identification. During the afternoon session, attention will shift to providing hands-on experience with the actual equipment.

At the end of the day, there will be a multiple choice exam that is 20 questions in length related to the material covered during the day's instruction. You must answer at least 16 of the 20 questions correctly in order to pass the course and obtain certification.
The successful candidate will have learned how to:

  • Operate the CAT & Genny machines safely and effectively.
  • Locate and identify underground utilities.
  • Properly interpret HSG 47 regulations regarding underground utilities.
  • Accurately interpret underground utility schematics.
  • Create their own schematic indicating the location of underground hazards.
  • Choose the right PPE for every situation.
