NRSWA Cat & Genny Course near Mitcham

The New Roads and Streetworks Act of 1991 established minimum qualifications for those who perform work on UK roads. It also established the mechanisms by which road work professionals could obtain certification attesting to their qualifications. The NRSWA CAT & Genny Course in Mitcham is one such mechanism. The CAT & Genny course is for those whose job will entail working with the Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and the Signal Generator tool (Genny). If that is you this course will provide the training and certification you need.

Road work, especially in highly developed areas, is fraught with dangers. The CAT and Genny course provides road work professionals with the training they need to safely and effectively operate the tools that locate and identify underground hazards so construction work on the surface can proceed safely.

The course takes place over 1 full day with morning and afternoon sessions led by our highly-experienced instructors. During the morning session, the hows and whys of CAT and Genny operation are covered, and in the afternoon participants get a chance to gain hands-on experience with these devices.

At the conclusion of the day's instruction, there will be an exam testing participant's retention of the information provided. The exam will comprise 20 multiple choice questions and participants must answer at least 16 of 20 correctly to earn certification.

For those who pass certification will be awarded by one of the following:

  • City & Guilds
  • SQA (The Scottish Qualification Authority)
  • CABWI  (The Certification and Assessment Board for the Water Industry)
  • Or Lantra
If, for whatever reason a participant should fail the exam they have the option of taking the course again. They will, however, need to wait at least 48 hours to re-register and they will be compelled to pay the registration fee a second time.
