NRSWA Streetworks Cat & Genny Course near Windsor

If your job calls (or will call) for you to operate CAT and Genny machines, you'll need certification. Our NRSWA CAT & Genny Course in Windsor is how you get it.

NRSWA Cat & Genny Course near Windsor

Beginning with the passage of the New Roads and Streetworks Act of 1991, anyone involved in the planning, execution or supervision of road construction projects had to obtain proper certification demonstrating professional competence. In the years since, road quality has increased significantly and the number and severity of construction accidents has declined precipitously, validating the programme. Our NRSWA CAT & Genny course in Windsor will provide the certification you need to operate these vital pieces of equipment.

This course teaches participants how to safely and effectively operate the CAT (Cable Avoidance Tool) and the Genny (Signal Generator). The CAT enables the roadworks crew to locate and identify underground cables and other potential obstructions. While the Genny sends an electrical pulse down the length of the obstruction, which enables the CAT to trace its path and pass this information on to the excavator who can plan their dig accordingly.
Upon completion of the CAT & Genny course, participants will:

  • Know how to operate both the CAT and Genny machines safely and effectively.
  • Be able to read and correctly interpret utility schematics.
  • Be able to locate and correctly identify various underground hazards.
  • Create their own schematic of the underground utilities they encounter.
  • Be able to comply with HSG 47 regulations.
  • Choose the appropriate PPE gear for each project.

The course will be divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session will focus primarily on the theoretical aspects of working with these tools. While the afternoon session will provide hands-on experience with real CAT and Genny machines on a mock jobsite.

At the end of the day's instruction, there will be a multiple-choice exam designed to test retention. In order to obtain certification, participants must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly.
