Gas distribution projects can involve planned network upgrades, scheduled maintenance and urgent repairs, making workforce availability an important consideration when organising training.
We help gas contractors arrange NRSWA qualifications around their operational requirements, whether they are preparing teams for a mains replacement programme, training additional excavation operatives or renewing qualifications across an existing workforce.
Courses are available through our nationwide network of training centres, allowing companies to arrange training close to their employees or project locations.
For businesses with six or more delegates, dedicated group training can also be arranged at suitable premises, subject to course requirements and facilities. Weekday, weekend and, where available, evening options offer additional flexibility for contractors working around demanding schedules.
Following successful assessment, candidates receive certification for the units achieved and registration on the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR). Qualifications are valid for five years.
5-Day NRSWA Operative Course
Our 5-day NRSWA Operative course covers physical Streetworks activities including locating underground apparatus, signing, lighting and guarding, excavation, backfilling and reinstatement. It is particularly relevant to gas utility operatives responsible for excavating around pipelines, preparing trenches for mains replacement and reinstating highway surfaces following completed works.
5-Day NRSWA Supervisor Course
The 5-day NRSWA Supervisor course is intended for employees responsible for monitoring and supervising Streetworks activities. It covers supervisory responsibilities associated with excavation, reinstatement and signing, lighting and guarding, making it relevant to those overseeing gas mains replacement, service connection and highway excavation teams.
Unit LA – Cat & Genny
Before excavation begins, gas contractors must consider the location of existing underground services. Unit LA covers locating and avoiding underground apparatus, including the use of cable avoidance equipment to help identify buried utilities and reduce the risk of accidental damage during excavation.
Unit O1 – Signing, Lighting & Guarding
Gas mains replacement and service connection works can affect traffic and pedestrian access. Unit O1 is designed for operatives responsible for setting out and maintaining signs, cones, barriers and other signing, lighting and guarding arrangements associated with Streetworks.
Unit S1 – Monitoring Signing, Lighting & Guarding
Unit S1 is the corresponding supervisor qualification, covering the monitoring of signing, lighting and guarding arrangements. It is relevant to supervisors overseeing temporary traffic and pedestrian safety measures during qualifying gas infrastructure works.
NRSWA Reassessment
NRSWA Streetworks qualifications are valid for five years. We provide reassessment courses for gas contractors whose existing qualifications are approaching expiry, helping operatives and supervisors renew the relevant units and maintain their Streetworks qualifications.
