NRSWA Streetworks Training for Gas, Water & Electric Utilities

Today's high-tech utility networks are critical to everyday life. But working with them entails some significant risks due to the presence of live gas mains, water pipes and electrical cables. For this reason, strict regulations are in place governing such work, and anyone who performs such work must be properly trained and certified. The best way to obtain such certification is by taking and passing the NRSWA Streetworks Training for Gas, Water & Electric Utilities course.

The NRSWA Streetworks Training for Gas, Water & Electric Utilities course places a strong emphasis on hazard awareness and risk control. Participants learn how to identify underground services by way of the CAT & Genny machines and how to manage vehicular and pedestrian traffic through such worksites.

The typical streetworks training course for gas, water & electric utilities takes place over 1 or 5 days, depending on whether you are a supervisor. The course work combines classroom learning and practical hands-on exercises on mock jobsites. Core subjects covered include:

  • Relevant health and safety legislation
  • Signing, lighting, and guarding (SLG) of streetworks sites
  • Safe excavation and backfilling techniques
  • Locating underground gas, water, and electrical services using CAT & Genny
  • Traffic management for minor roadworks
  • Reinstatement of various types of paved surfaces

  • Lantra
