Streetworks Training for Highway Maintenance Teams

It's crucial that highway maintenance teams are properly trained. The NRSWA Streetworks Training for Highway Maintenance Teams is how they get that training.

NRSWA Streetworks Training for Highway Maintenance Teams - ATAD

Highway maintenance activities such as pothole repairs, resurfacing, drainage works and kerb installation often take place in live traffic environments. For that reason, proper training and certification is required of all highway maintenance team members in order to ensure public safety. The NRSWA Streetworks Training for Highway Maintenance Teams is how they get this certification. It's been 35 years since the passage of the New Roads and Safety Act of 1991, which mandated that all those performing roadwork in the UK be properly certified. In the years since, road safety has significantly improved, accidents are down, and the quality of the finished product has increased substantially.

This training is suitable for both operatives and supervisors. The main difference is the volume of information imparted. Supervisors need to know more than the basic operative, and so their version of this training course is typically 5 days in duration. Whereas for operatives, this is generally a 1-Day course.
During the course of the NRSWA Streetworks Training for Highway Maintenance Teams, participants will learn a plethora of valuable information that will make them safer, more effective highway workers. The course combines classroom-based theory with a chance to get hands-on experience with relevant equipment on a mock jobsite.

Core subjects covered during the NRSWA Streetworks Training for Highway Maintenance Teams include:

  • SLG (signing, lighting and guarding) for highway jobsites
  • Safe and effective excavation and backfilling practices
  • Health and safety legislation and duty of care
  • The purpose and use of the CAT & Genny machines
  • Reinstatement of road surfaces, footways and verges
  • Traffic management principles for both minor and major projects
  • How to choose and employ the proper PPE equipment

At the end of the course, there will be a multiple-choice exam testing your retention of the material. You will need to answer 80% of the questions correctly to receive certification.
