NRSWA Cat & Genny Course near Wakefield

CAT & Genny sounds like the name of a cartoon, but they're really the names of 2 pieces of machinery that help keep roadway jobsites safe during construction. CAT stands for Cable Avoidance Tool, while Geny is short for Signal Generator. Working together, these two machines identify and trace the path of underground hazards so people working overhead don't rupture them while excavating. If your job calls for you to operate these machines, you can get the training and certification you need by taking the NRSWA CAT & Genny Course in Wakefield.

During the  1980s, the amount of traffic on UK roads was growing exponentially. This led to a disturbing increase in accidents on UK roadworks jobsites, as the workers at the time simply weren't trained to handle such a situation. Shortly afterwards, the government stepped in and passed the New Roads and Streetworks Act of 1991. This mandated that anyone working on UK roads must be properly trained and certified.

At the same time, the CAT & Genny machines were developed, and with them a set of protocols that would govern their safe use. Today, some 40 years later, the number and severity of accidents on road jobsites have been reduced considerably, and we're all better off for it.
The NRSWA CAT & Genny course in Wakefield is a 1-day course consisting of morning and afternoon sections. During the morning session, our highly-experienced instructor delves into the hows and whys of the equipment, and during the afternoon session, participants get a chance to get hands-on experience with real equipment on a mock jobsite.

At the end of the day, there will be a short multiple-choice exam. You must answer 80% of the questions correctly in order to receive certification. Should you fail the exam, you have the option of taking the course (not just the exam) over again.
The 1-day NRSWA Unit LA Location and avoidance of underground apparatus course is for anyone who needs to safely locate and avoid underground apparatus during their work on the local authority roads and paths. Whether that be in order to dig up the road and lay new tarmac or to check fibre cables underground, as just 2 examples.

The underground apparatus will include electrical cables, gas pipes, water mains and fiber optics.

Also known as the cat and genny course it is for both Streetworks operatives and supervisors.
