NRSWA Unit S1 Streetworks Course near Belper

Effective Signing, Lighting and Guarding or SLG, is what separates a jobsite that is safe for vehicular and pedestrian traffic from one that isn't. Those who set up and dismantle SLG components must make sure they are properly trained and certified, and the same goes for those who supervise their work. The NRSWA Unit S1 Streetworks course in Belper is how those supervisors gain the certification they need. This course is intended only for supervisors. Hence the "S1" designation.

This course is only for those whose job is to supervise SLG installation. Those who actually set up this equipment will want to take the Unit 01 course. That said, the NRSWA Unit S1 Streetworks Course in Belper will provide those supervisors with the following knowledge:

  • How to ensure the SLG installation is compliant with current laws and regulations.
  • How to control traffic on various types of roads.
  • How to ensure the SLG operatives are setting up the equipment properly.
  • How to dismantle SLG setups in a compliant manner to ensure safety.
  • How to choose the proper PPE gear for each job.
This is a 1-day course that is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session focuses on the theory of safe traffic movement. While the afternoon session provides participants with a chance to get real-world experience setting up and dismantling real SLG components on a mock jobsite.

At the end of the day's instruction, there will be a short, multiple-choice exam. You must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly in order to obtain certification. If you do, certification will be issued by one of the following licensing bodies:

  • Lantra
  • City & Guilds
  • SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority)
  • CABWI (Certification and Assessment Board for the Water Industry)

Certification will be valid for 5 years from the date of issue.
At the end of the day's instruction, there will be a multiple-choice exam comprising 20 questions. The exam is specifically designed to test your retention of the information imparted during the morning and afternoon sessions. In order to obtain Unit 01 certification, you will need to answer at least 16 of 20 questions correctly.
If, for whatever reason, you do not pass the exam, you are free to take the course again. However, you will need to wait at least 48 hours after failing to re-register, and you will need to pay the registration fee a second time.
