NRSWA Unit S1 Streetworks Course

The NRSWA Unit S1 Streetworks course in Wallington is for those whose job it is to supervise the installation of signing, lighting and guarding (SLG) on UK road construction sites. It's often confused with the Unit 01 Streetworks course. But that course is meant for those who actually install SLG components. Now that we're clear on that, if any part of your job requires you to oversee the installation of SLG systems, you will need to be properly certified and this course is where you obtain that certification.

This is a 1-day course divided into morning and afternoon sessions. During the morning session, participants will learn the hows and whys of SLG, and during the afternoon session participants will have a chance to gain hands-on experience with SLG equipment on a mock jobsite. At the end of the day, there will be an exam consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions. Participants must answer at least 16 of 20 correctly to earn certification. Certification in this case will be provided by one of the following licensing bodies:
  • City & Guilds
  • Lantra
  • The SQA
  • Or the CABWI
Certification will be valid for 5 years from the date of issue.
Should someone fail the exam for whatever reason, they can take the course over again (not just the exam), but they will need to wait 48 hours to re-register, and they will be required to pay the registration fee a second time.

Those who complete the course and pass the exam will:
  • Understand the best ways to set up SLG on a road construction site.
  • Understand the purpose and unique importance of every component.
  • Have an understanding of all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Know how to safely and effectively dismantle an SLG setup.
  • And most importantly, be able to supervise those whose job it is to install SLG components.
At the end of the day's instruction, there will be a multiple-choice exam comprising 20 questions. The exam is specifically designed to test your retention of the information imparted during the morning and afternoon sessions. In order to obtain Unit 01 certification, you will need to answer at least 16 of 20 questions correctly.
If, for whatever reason, you do not pass the exam, you are free to take the course again. However, you will need to wait at least 48 hours after failing to re-register, and you will need to pay the registration fee a second time.
