Our NRSWA Operative Streetworks Course in Buckinghamshire is a 5-day course that covers everything operatives need to know in order to perform their daily duties in compliance with the NRSWA Act 1991. Having successfully completed the course by passing all of the practical assessments and multiple-choice examinations, you will be qualified in all 9 NRSWA Streetworks units. The course is suitable for all streetworks operatives in Buckinghamshire and is especially useful for getting new recruits up to speed before they are assigned to work on live sites across the county.
The 9 units (or certificates as they are now called) that are covered in this course are:
- LA – Location and Avoidance of Underground Utilities/Apparatus
- 01 – Signing, Lighting and Guarding
- 02 – Excavation
- 03 – Reinstatement/Compaction of Backfill Materials –
- 04 – Reinstatement of Sub-Base/Base in Non-Bituminous Materials
- 05 – Reinstatement in Cold-Lay Bituminous Materials
- 06 - Reinstatement in Hot-Lay Bituminous Materials
- 07 - Reinstatement of Concrete Slabs
- 08 - Reinstatement of Modular Surfaces and Concrete Footways
These are all of the NRSWA Streetworks certificates for operatives (O-series certificates). There are also 7 S-series certificates, which supervisors take in addition to the universal LA unit.

Yes, you can carry out all the physical works covered by your units. However you need to have a streetworks supervisor assigned to the site with the equivalent supervisor units.
There are no beginner units. Each unit delivers something different. If you have no experience, there are books you can read prior to a course or if you can get some practical work experience with a company that would benefit you greatly.
If you require supervisor units - while the operative units are not compulsory – gaining the operatives units first and doing the physical works can be of help.
