NRSWA Unit 01 Streetworks Course Merton

Being able to locate and identify underground utilities in relation to street work is vital to maintaining a safe jobsite for workers, motorists and passersby. If your job entails locating and devising plans to avoid underground utilities as part of highway construction projects you will need to be properly certified. You can obtain that certification by taking and passing our NRSWA Unit 01 Streetworks Course in Merton.

While there are no specific prerequisites for taking this course it would be helpful if the participant had at least some knowledge of or experience with a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT). Again, however, such experience is not a mandatory prerequisite.

The NRSWA Unit 01 Streetworks Course in Merton will cover all of the following:

  • Reading and correctly interpreting site plans.
  • Health and safety legislation and regulations governing the performance of street work.
  • Best practices governing the use of digging equipment on active highway construction sites.
  • Proper operation and maintenance of said equipment.
The NRSWA Unit 01 Streetworks course in Merton is delivered through a combination of classwork and hands-on exercises. Classwork is scheduled for the morning and consists of a series of PowerPoint presentations, instructional videos and other presentation methods. In the afternoon things shift to the practical, hands-on exercises using actual equipment and presented by our highly experienced instructors.

At the end of the day, all participants must take a multiple-choice exam consisting of 20 questions. In order to pass you must answer at least 16 of the 20 questions correctly. Those who pass the examination will be awarded an NRSWA certificate for Unit 01 that will be valid for 5 years from the date of issue. The certificate will be issued by CABWI (Certification and Assessment Board for the Water Industry), Lantra, City and Guilds or the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority).
