We provide NRSWA Streetworks courses for water companies, wastewater contractors, drainage specialists, utility maintenance teams and subcontractors working on underground water and sewer infrastructure.
Training can be arranged for operatives carrying out physical Streetworks and supervisors responsible for monitoring the work. Our nationwide training network helps contractors arrange courses close to their workforce, while companies with six or more delegates can enquire about dedicated training at their own site.
Group courses can be arranged during the week, at weekends and, where available, during evenings, helping contractors organise essential training while minimising disruption to planned maintenance, infrastructure projects and operational commitments.
Successful candidates receive certification for the units completed and are registered on the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR), with qualifications valid for five years.
5-Day NRSWA Operative Course
Our 5-day NRSWA Operative course is designed for people carrying out physical Streetworks. Training covers locating underground apparatus, signing, lighting and guarding, excavation, backfilling and reinstatement. This is particularly relevant to water and wastewater operatives undertaking utility excavations, water main installations, pipe repairs and associated highway reinstatement works.
5-Day NRSWA Supervisor Course
The 5-day NRSWA Supervisor course is for those responsible for supervising and monitoring Streetworks activities. It covers the supervision of excavation, reinstatement and signing, lighting and guarding, making it suitable for supervisors overseeing water utility repairs, sewer infrastructure projects and maintenance teams.
Unit LA – Cat & Genny
NRSWA Unit LA covers locating and avoiding underground apparatus. Water and wastewater contractors frequently work close to existing gas, electricity, telecommunications and water infrastructure, making underground service detection an important consideration before excavation begins.
Unit O1 – Signing, Lighting & Guarding
Unit O1 is the operative qualification for signing, lighting and guarding. It is intended for operatives responsible for setting out and maintaining signs, cones, barriers and other temporary traffic-management arrangements associated with Streetworks, including water main repairs and utility excavations.
Unit S1 – Monitoring Signing, Lighting & Guarding
Unit S1 is the corresponding supervisor qualification. It is designed for those responsible for monitoring signing, lighting and guarding arrangements during Streetworks activities, including planned maintenance and emergency utility repairs.
NRSWA Reassessment
NRSWA Streetworks qualifications are valid for five years. We provide reassessment courses for water and wastewater contractors whose existing qualifications are approaching expiry, helping operatives and supervisors renew the relevant units and maintain their Streetworks qualifications.
